Hachalu Hundessa, popular Ethiopian musician shot dead

Hachalu Hundessa , the popular Ethiopian musicians, who rose to fame through his protest music that made abiye Ahmed, a member of oromo ethnic group rise to power after long dictatorial regime lead by Tigray ethnic group of Ethiopia, was shot dead on Monday in the Geta Argwa area of Adis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Ethiopians both in diaspora and back at home protested against unjustified killing of the popular musician, who left behind a widow and three children.

The prime minister, Abiye Ahmed expressed his sorrow and conolence and urge ethiopians to remain calm to save other lifes and prevent other crime.

“I express my deep condolences for those of us who are in deep sorrow since the news of the death of the shining young Artist Hachalu Hundesa,” Fana reported the prime minister as saying. “We are expecting full investigation reports of this evil act.”

“Let us express our condolences by keeping ourselves safe and preventing further crime,” Abiy said

Ethiopians on social media, including The Ethiopian ambassador to Washingtoin , were shocked by the death of the popular musician.

“Deeply saddened & shocked by the death of Hachalu Hundessa. We have lost a truly great young artist. My thoughts & prayers are with Hachalu’s family & friends.” Ambassador posted on Twitter.

“They did not just kill Hachalu. They shot at the heart of the Oromo Nation, once again !!…You can kill us, all of us, you can never ever stop us!! NEVER !!” Jawar posted on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

His killings was connected to his popular protest music. In October 2019 at least 78 people were killed in clashes between Jawar’s supporters and police after jawar’s security details were withdrawn.
