The first case of covid-19 in wild animals

First case of corona virus in animals was reported in Bronx zoo,new York after Tigers called Nadia tests positive on Sunday.

A four- year old female Malayan big cat, Nadia was spotted having the symptoms like novel coronavirus . it was confirmed positive after tested by the national veterinary services laboratory in lowa .

Along with the other six big cat are thought to have been infected by an asymptomatic zoo warder who was not have been identified. The cat started showing symptoms , including dry cough late last month after exposure to the employee who has believed to covid-19 infected person but not been identified

“This is the first time that any of us know that a person infected the animals and they got sick,” Paul Calle, the chief veterinarian at the zoo told Reuters news agency on Sunday.

He also assured the rest of zoo and other institutions researching the transmission of covid-19 that he will share the findings with them
“We tested Nadia out of an abundance of caution and will ensure any knowledge we gain about covid-19 will contribute to the world ‘s continuing understanding of this pandemic .”The zoo said in a statement.

Nadia, her sister Azul , as well as Amur tigers and three African lions which showed symptoms are all expected to make a full recovery

“The big cat had some decrease in appetite but are otherwise doing well under veterinary care and are bright,alert and interactive with their keepers.” The zoo leadership said.
Still the scientists have no clue about how the virus will develop in animals like liger and lions since various species can react differently to new infection.
